the dripping became a constant flow. the flow caused a constant high pitch moan. very irritating. i plugged the tub drain to gauge the amount of the flow. time to fix the thing. i only have one wrench but it seemed to fit. i was surprised how quickly the handle came off. perhaps the water pressure beneath it played a part. the geyser of hot water pounded the ceiling once i moved my head from it's path. i fumbled with the handle thinking i might be able fight the spray and reattach it. yea, right. heaping towels on it did not deter the flow, just redirected it to the floor in a less violent manner. my neighbor and i found a master valve in the garage above the water heater. i wish i had found it sooner.
i have seen this happen on I Love Lucy or The Honeymooners and remember it being much funnier.
3 days removed, the master bath is now a rice field. what appears to be a terra firma now squishes under my feet. very cold brown water rises between my toes. wet socks are unpleasant.
so, if wonky code causes this site start spewing bits, and bytes please throw a few towels on it, and do not step in it with new socks.
